The Winds of War

In her article “A Call to Greatness,” Elizabeth Mitchell discusses the reason God has placed us here at this time and for this purpose. Just as Churchill was prepared for that fateful call, so should we be.

Have you ever wondered why God placed you here at these times? I remember a dinner discussion with my sister-in-law a while back and she asked… if I had been given any time to be born, what time would I choose? My response was 2025. Why? Because I had heard there would be a time for a great era of peace but before that time would be a time of great distress. I could feel the “Winds of War” were upon us, there would be a very difficult time ahead and possibly the entire world was ready for yet another world war. Some may not be old enough to remember that TV mini-series about the trials of the Henry and Jastrow families in the early years of World War II.

In her article “A Call to Greatness,” Elizabeth Mitchell talks about someone like Winston Churchill who was not sitting idly by as time passed him after a few rough years. No, instead he was already contemplating the battle ahead. The strategies needed, and a plan for action.

Winston Churchill was a man born into the right time and for the right purpose. Churchill stated “I felt as if I were walking with destiny, and that all my past life had been but a preparation for this hour and for this trial.”

Upon thinking again about my answer as to when to be alive, when to be born, I think being born in 1957 was the precise moment God chose for me for a reason. I often reflect on how silent I was early on to His calling. Is it too late to rise up now to what I feel is that calling?

In 2002, I went through a major life transformation as I finally heard that calling. What was that calling? It was summed up in three simple words: ‘Prepare The Way’ Those were the words left after a very emotional feeling of the real presence of the spirit of God. I doubt my calling is anything as important as what Churchill went through, but in my own little way, I’ve been trying to answer that call.

In 2002 I was living in Glendale Az just a few doors down from my brother at that time. The next day I went over and discussed what had happened with him and his wife.

A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”

Isaiah 40:3

The next month I flew to Seattle to discuss what had happened with my two sisters, and brother-in-law. We were up until 2 AM wondering when Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me” whether that meant He was the only Way. I remember thinking on the latter half (no one comes to the Father, but by me), that as a just judge, Jesus will be the only one who will decide who gets to be in the Father’s company. It took me a while to come to the knowledge of His saving sacrifice that is the final criteria that allows us to be in the presence of the Father. There are still things we have to do in this life to be worthy of that presence. Answering the call, living in His Will, is one of those. I was told to ‘Prepare The Way’ and prepare I must.

Oh, it has been a long struggle and I doubt it was on the same magnitude as Churchill’s struggle, but it has had a profound impact on my life, those three simple words, “Prepare The Way.’

So what does it mean now and what is of this ‘Winds of War’?

The world has entered that darkness, the wilderness, that Churchill felt. As Elizabeth Mitchell said in her article,

As Churchill knew in his own time of crisis, everything in our own lives has been a preparation for this hour. Some of us, like him, may find ourselves ready, and on the frontlines, directly fighting the physical and spiritual war.

Most of us will feel, at least to some degree, that this is our time in the “wilderness,” and that we are called upon to battles and sacrifices that we are not prepared to make. Yet that, too, is part of the overall trial.

Whether we wanted to be born in this era or not, this is the era that will reshape the world. We will prepare the world for the new era of peace that has long been wanting by many of the religious. This is not a fight that will be won in a single battle. But it is a fight where the outcome is already known.

In my previous articles I talked about ‘A Renewed America‘ and ‘A Renewed Church.‘ The next few articles will focus on the supposed small battles that will need to be fought, and why a renewed America is a prelude to a renewed Church. In Churchill’s time, England played a very important role. But in this present crisis, America has a very important role. A role that focuses on our children. A role that God has given each and every one of us to combat the evil that plagues our world. A role to lead the next generation in purity. This battle between good and evil has arrived. Man the battle stations. Rise up O Men of God.
